American Presidents of the distant history appear from their immortal words to have been gifted thinkers and philosopher. Perhaps one didn’t need to be a psychopath to get in that position back then. Or perhaps there’s been a propaganda machine at work turning the past Presidents into mythical heroes, making up quotations and hiding the inconvenient stuff… Either way, here are a couple of wise words by Thomas Jefferson about principles.

A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for a second, that second for a third, and so on ’til the bulk of the society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering.
